Bookkeeping, payroll, reports and CFO work solve different problems and need different scopes.
The main findings
“Accounting” hides several different jobs.
A tax specialist may also handle deals, regulation or family succession.
An offshore provider may focus on accounting practices while offering books, payroll, tax and audit support.
A firm's sector list does not prove it supplies every listed service in that sector.
Bookkeeping · supplier bills · customer collections · employee pay
Reconciliations · financial statements · group accounts · MIS
Budgets · cash flow · CFO advice · funding and deals
An illustrative workflow. Tax, audit and risk work run alongside it and have their own specialist tasks.
AI and automation / Reviewed 11 September 2026
The repetitive work is already being automated.
The next opportunity is often the unfinished work: missing documents, mismatches and follow-ups that still need someone to investigate.
Frequent, easy to observe and useful before any accounting entry changes.
Use existing matching tools, then gather the evidence behind the items they cannot settle.
Chase schedules and assemble packs so the accountant can review them sooner.
These are analyst recommendations. We have not measured labour hours or savings at the 60 firms.
Interpret documents, gather evidence and draft follow-ups.
Apply configured rules and maintain the accounting records.
Check material adjustments, filings, payments and professional conclusions.
Where the reviewed providers overlap
Counts out of 14 selected providers, including firms, software and one preview. A match covers at least part of a workflow. This is research coverage, not market share, demand or product quality.

What the technology and availability labels mean
Agent offering means the provider explicitly describes agents doing supported tasks.
AI-assisted offering means the reviewed feature uses AI, without establishing an agent for every step.
Workflow automation means the evidence supports rules, bots or integrations.
Commercial offering means a current product page or availability announcement exists. It does not mean we tested or purchased it.
Published service means the firm describes an automation service. Preview means the vendor still marks the feature as prerelease.
Labels describe the reviewed offering, not everything the company sells. Marketing accuracy and savings claims are not treated as independently verified results.
Named examples of customers already using these tools
Information collection across divisions.
Named customer quotation on the Request Agent page; not independent verification of every AI feature.
Read the customer evidenceCash application and collections.
Vendor-hosted customer presentation describes the deployment. It predates some current agent branding.
Read the customer evidenceTransaction reconciliation.
Named customer quotation on the reconciliation product page; reported outcomes were not independently checked.
Read the customer evidenceThese are vendor-published customer accounts. They establish reported use of the stated workflow, not deployment of every current agent feature.
How to choose an initial pilot
Pick one repeated workflow with accessible source data and a clear reviewer.
Measure staff minutes per case, correction rate, unresolved backlog and days to completion.
Compare similar cases before and after automation, including time spent reviewing the agent.
For an Indian CA practice, test local ledger exports, GST data and client document quality before expanding.
Buyer descriptions are possible fits inferred from the work. This research does not establish purchase intent or current manual workload at a named firm.

04 / How the work is done
Agree on the task and who owns the result.
A provider takes a regular process, such as bookkeeping or payroll, through an agreed review and reporting cycle.
Examples: BDO, Forvis Mazars, Pierian.
A team supplies people or prepares work for another accounting practice to manage and review.
A focused team investigates an issue, gives advice, or supports a transaction.
Examples: H N A, Dhruva, Mahajan & Aibara.
A CFO or transformation team works with management on decisions and implementation.
Examples: Practus, CapActix, Guru & Jana.

Research method, definitions and limits
Each of the 60 profiles was reviewed individually using public sources. This revision maps 86 service fields and 39 sector fields, with supporting links for every positive match.
There are 213 distinct source URLs in the combined firm research. Not all could be fetched directly; indexed official text and named issuer disclosures fill some gaps.
Service menus count as published offerings. Dedicated sector lists and identified engagements count as sector evidence. News topics, employee qualifications, global network menus and website boilerplate do not establish a local service.
Broad labels such as “assurance” or “tax” stay in the full profile when a precise task was not established. They do not automatically populate every subservice.
Each firm is counted once per field. A brand can span several legal entities. A service tag is not an audit licence, independence check, delivery-quality assessment or proof of revenue concentration.
Focus labels are editorial interpretations of published positioning. They are not inferred from low service counts. Corporate history and original research limitations are retained in the firm profiles.
Bookkeeping records transactions. Accounting also organises, reviews and explains those records. Payroll deals with employee pay. Financial reporting turns records into statements and management information.
Sector context describes typical issues and is analyst explanation. Filtering for a service and a sector finds two documented claims at the same firm; it does not verify a combined engagement.
The selection is purposive and includes Indian CA practices, international brands, specialist advisers and offshore providers. It is not a top-firm ranking or a complete inventory of every offering available in India.
Public sources do not establish comparable prices, turnaround times, actual revenue mix or independently measured quality. Confirm these with the team that would handle the engagement.
